Before you start

• A Google account with access to the free Gemini app and NotebookLM. Google Workspace for Education accounts work too
• Registration is free on the Google for Education certifications site. Separate University Student and K-12 Student variants exist

1. Week 1 · 1.5 h

   Generative AI and Gemini fundamentals

   • Define generative AI, LLM and prompting, and explain how generative AI differs from other AI
   • Name which Workspace for Education tools integrate Gemini, and the use cases for the Gemini app, Gems and NotebookLM
   • State Google's privacy commitments for Workspace for Education accounts, and the difference between AI augmenting and replacing a teacher

2. Week 1 · 2.5 h

   Using Gemini in the classroom (hands-on)

   • Write effective prompts with the PARTS framework to generate a quiz, lesson outline or rubric for a named subject and grade
   • Ground answers by uploading sources to NotebookLM, and judge when Audio Overviews or Mind Maps help students
   • Design a Gem for a recurring classroom need and generate lesson-appropriate images with Imagen 4 in the Gemini app
   • Know which features need Google AI Pro for Education (Gemini in Docs, Gmail, Forms and Vids)

   Hands-on: Upload one unit's readings to NotebookLM and generate an Audio Overview. Then build a Gem in Gemini that writes three differentiated bell-ringer questions for that unit, and refine its instructions until the output fits your grade level.

3. Week 1 · 1 h

   Responsible AI use with students

   • Explain hallucinations, bias, transparency and digital responsibility with a classroom example of each
   • Draft a short class guideline on AI use and a plan for handling suspected AI plagiarism
   • Justify when not to use AI for a given teaching task

4. Week 1 · 1 h

   Exam-guide review and test

   • Walk through every numbered objective in the exam guide and do each "create" task once in Gemini
   • Book a quiet 2-hour block before clicking TAKE EXAM

You're ready to book when…

• You have built and used a working Gem and a NotebookLM notebook for a real lesson
• You can pick the right tool (Gemini app, Gems, NotebookLM, Gemini in Classroom) for any task in the guide
• You can explain hallucinations and plagiarism mitigation to a colleague without notes

Exam tips

• The 2-hour timer starts when you click TAKE EXAM, and running out of time counts as a FAIL. You must launch within 14 days of registering.
• After a fail you can retake after 8 days (14 days after a timed-out attempt). The certificate is valid for 3 years.
• The exam focuses on free Gemini features. Questions about paid features may appear but are not scored.
