Best YouTube Channels and Free Courses for AI Certifications (2026)
By Kyle Tice · Updated October 19, 2026 · Facts checked against official exam pages
The best free study material for any AI certification is the vendor’s own training: AWS Skill Builder, Microsoft Learn, Google Skills, Anthropic Academy and NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute all have free courses written against their exam guides. Add one well-known YouTube course for your exam (Andrew Brown on freeCodeCamp for AWS and Azure, John Savill for Azure) and one fundamentals channel (Karpathy, 3Blue1Brown or StatQuest), and you can pass most associate-level AI exams without paying for a course.
Everything below was checked to exist in October 2026. We list what each resource is best for and when it’s dated.
How to use free resources without wasting time
- Start with the official exam guide. It’s the only document that says what’s on the exam.
- Use one primary course, not five. Pick the official course or one YouTube course and finish it.
- Check the date. AI exams changed a lot in 2026. AI-900 became AI-901 and AI-102 became AI-103, so pre-2026 Azure videos are partly outdated. If a video is more than a year old, compare its topics with the current guide.
- Do the official practice questions. AWS and Microsoft both offer free practice sets.
- Build something. Every exam on this list rewards hands-on time more than watching.

Free learning platforms with certificates
These aren’t tied to one vendor’s exam. They’re where you learn the underlying skills, and most give a free certificate. Our free AI certifications guide covers them as credentials.
| Platform | What’s free | Standout courses |
|---|---|---|
| Hugging Face Learn | Everything | LLM Course, Agents Course, MCP Course, Deep RL Course |
| DeepLearning.AI | Short courses (about 90 minutes each) | Short courses built with OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, AWS and others; certificates need Pro |
| Kaggle Learn | Everything | Python, Intro to ML, Intro to Deep Learning, plus the AI Agents Intensive |
| fast.ai | Everything | Practical Deep Learning for Coders (no certificate) |
| LangChain Academy | Courses | LangGraph and agent courses from the maintainers |
| Harvard CS50 AI | Course and certificate | CS50’s Introduction to AI with Python |
Best YouTube channels for AI fundamentals
Certification courses teach you a vendor’s services. These channels teach you how the technology works, which is what interviews test.
| Channel | Best for | Start with |
|---|---|---|
| Andrej Karpathy | Building neural nets and GPT from scratch | Neural Networks: Zero to Hero |
| 3Blue1Brown | Visual intuition for neural networks and transformers | The neural networks series |
| StatQuest with Josh Starmer | Statistics and classic ML, clearly explained | Any topic you’re weak on, from regression to transformers |
| freeCodeCamp | Long, free full courses on ML, LLMs and cloud certs | Search the channel for your exam code |
| Stanford Online | University-level lectures | CS229 (machine learning), CS231n (deep learning for vision), CS336 (language modeling from scratch) |
| Sebastian Raschka | LLM internals, companion to his book | His LLM-from-scratch material |
| Krish Naik | Practical ML and GenAI tutorials | Project walkthroughs |
| Umar Jamil | Paper-to-code walkthroughs of transformer models | Transformer from scratch |
| DeepLearning.AI | Talks and short explainers | Andrew Ng’s talks |
| Hugging Face | Open-source models and libraries | Course companion videos |
Course pages: CS229, CS231n, CS336.
Suggested order for a beginner: 3Blue1Brown’s neural network series for intuition, StatQuest for any statistics gaps, then Karpathy’s Zero to Hero once you’re comfortable with Python. That’s roughly 30–40 hours of video, and it’ll make every certification exam easier.

When to pay instead
Free resources cover the knowledge. Paid ones are worth it for two things:
- Practice exams. Timed, exam-style questions show you where you’re weak. Tutorials Dojo, Whizlabs and MeasureUp (Microsoft’s official practice test provider) are the common picks. Never use “dump” sites that claim to share real questions: it breaks the exam agreement and can get your certification revoked.
- Structured courses if you keep starting free courses and not finishing them. A paid course with a clear end point can be worth it for the accountability alone.
Use the cost calculator to compare total cost, and check /vouchers/ before paying for any exam.
FAQ
Can I pass an AI certification using only free resources?
Yes, for most foundational and associate exams. Combine the official free training, one YouTube course, the official free practice questions and some hands-on work. Professional-level exams usually need real project experience on top.
What’s the best free course for the AWS Certified AI Practitioner?
AWS Skill Builder’s official exam prep plus Andrew Brown’s free full course on the freeCodeCamp YouTube channel (about 15 hours). Then use the official practice question set.
Are the freeCodeCamp AI-900 and AI-102 courses still useful?
For concepts, yes. Both exams retired in 2026 and were replaced by AI-901 and AI-103, which add Microsoft Foundry content. Use Microsoft Learn’s current learning paths as your primary source.
Which YouTube channel is best for learning how LLMs work?
Andrej Karpathy’s Neural Networks: Zero to Hero series, especially the “Let’s build GPT” video. Pair it with 3Blue1Brown’s transformer videos for intuition.
Do employers care about free course certificates?
A little. They show initiative, but they’re unproctored. What employers care about is what you built with the skills. See AI portfolio projects.
